In short

Most garage door repairs cost £80 to £350 and are scheduled within the week across the Thames Valley. Springs, cables, rollers, tracks and electric openers are the usual culprits — we diagnose most faults in the first ten minutes on site, quote on the spot, and back every repair with a 5 year parts and labour guarantee.

Common faults we fix

If your door is doing one of these, we can probably help.

Twenty plus years of combined experience across the team means we diagnose most faults inside the first ten minutes on site. Even doors we didn't fit originally, roller, sectional, up and over, side hinged.

Won't open or close

Stuck partway, jammed shut, or refusing to lock. A security issue first, we prioritise these.

Stiff or hard to operate

Should run smoothly in any weather. If it doesn't, tension, rollers, or hinges are the usual suspects.

Unusual noises or bumps

Creaks, grinds, new clanks. Often a warning sign of bigger wear, cheap to fix early, expensive to ignore.

Broken spring or cable

Snapped torsion or extension spring, frayed lift cable. Replaced as pairs to match tension. Never DIY this one.

Faulty motor or remote

Failed opener, intermittent operation, lost remotes. We service Hörmann SupraMatic, LiftMaster, Somfy and most major brands.

Dented panel or bent track

Original part replacement where the door is current, manufacturer-approved equivalents where it isn't.

Lock fault or lost keys

Replacement locks fitted with new keys, remote controls re-paired. Smart-lock upgrades available.

Gaps, draughts or weather seal

Perimeter seals wear in five to seven years. A cheap replacement that pays itself back in heating bills.

Repair or replace?

When a repair is right, and when it isn't.

Most faults are an easy repair. Some are a sign the door has reached the end of its life. We will tell you honestly which side of that line you are on, even when it means a smaller job for us.

Repair makes sense when

  • The door is under 15 years old
  • The fault is mechanical (spring, cable, motor)
  • Panels are intact, no rust through
  • Parts are still manufactured

Replacement makes sense when

  • Multiple faults at once
  • Panels are rusted, dented through, or warped
  • Door is over 20 years old and parts are obsolete
  • You want insulation, automation, or modern security — see our cost guide

Costs · Typical 2026 figures

What garage door repairs cost.

Typical professional repair costs including call-out. You get a firm price on the spot after diagnosis — no fix, no fee surprises.

Repair Typical cost Note
Spring replacement £120 – £280 Full professional job including call-out
Spring and cable together £200 – £300 Replaced as pairs to match tension
Rollers and tracks £80 – £120 Up to £180 if a track is bent
Electric opener faults £100 – £250 Motor or circuit-board work on premium brands £150 – £250
Annual service £80 – £150 Frequently prevents a £300 – £400 failure later

The decision rule we use: if the door itself is sound, secure and reasonably straight, a £120 to £300 repair beats a £2,000 replacement every time. A snapped spring is the one fault you should never attempt yourself; for the full repair-or-replace arithmetic, see the 2026 price guide.

FAQ

Common repair questions.

Can you automate my existing door?
It depends on your door type. We can automate existing up-and-over doors by fitting an electric operator. For sectional and roller doors we can replace or upgrade the motor operator. Side-hinged doors cannot be automated, the mechanism does not support electric operation. Call us and we will confirm what is possible for your specific door.
Do you install front doors too?
Yes, Comp Door composite front doors and Ryterna aluminium front doors. Many customers match a new front door to a new garage door.
Do you offer finance?
Yes, through Ideal4Finance. Typical plans are 0% over 12 months on installs over £2,000.
Do you remove the old door?
Yes, every quote includes removal and ethical disposal of your existing door. We recycle the steel and aluminium where possible.
How long does a typical garage door installation take?
A standard replacement (sectional or up-and-over) takes around 4-6 hours on a single visit. Roller doors with full automation can be 6-8 hours. Side-hinged with frame replacement is usually a full day.
What if my door breaks outside working hours?
Call the main line and leave a message with 'urgent'. For total failures we aim to attend same-day or next-morning.
